UPDATE: Student-athletes can only request a PE waiver via their grade-level counselor at the end of their perspective sports last season game. Once the paperwork is completed by the grade-level counselor the Athletic Director will approve or deny the request pending the following criteria: Student attended 85% of practices/games/matches • Student demonstrated sportsmanship, teamwork and cooperation • Student performed activities following safety protocols • Student completed season is good standing
DPS athletics that are sanctioned by CHSAA and meet the criteria below may exempt a student from the physical education graduation requirement. Both semesters of the physical education requirement may be exempted by athletic participation.
Criteria governing physical education exemptions for participation in DPS athletics:
Student must complete the season in good standing.
Athletic Director/Principal/Counselor must verify at the end of the season: • Student attended 85% of practices/games/matches • Student demonstrated sportsmanship, teamwork and cooperation • Student performed activities following safety protocols • Student completed season is good standing
One full sport season played at DPS is required to exempt a student from 0.5 unit of PE; two full sport seasons played is required to exempt from 1 unit of PE
PE exemptions from other districts are non-transferable and will not apply to this exemption.
Exempted units must be made up in other subject areas
